What is AP Tests?
AP stands for Advanced Placement. AP courses are called as college-level AP courses. High-school students can have a head start and explore more knowledge otherwise remain unexplored in high school. AP Courses

AP Tests
If the student’s school offers AP, contact the AP Coordinator to register for the exams. Usually the AP Coordinator will order the necessary materials, collect registration fees, and let the students know when and where to appear for the exams.
Guidelines for AP Tests
The AP Exam does not require a student to take an AP course before taking an AP Exam. An exam can be repeated in a subsequent year. In such cases, both grades will be reported unless the student request that one be withheld or canceled.
AP Grades
AP Grade Reports are sent in July to the college or university the student designated on his or her answer sheet, to the student, and to his or her high school. Each report is cumulative and includes grades for all the AP Exams taken, unless the student have requested that one or more grades be withheld from a college or canceled. 1. Can you take the AP Examination if you have not taken an AP course?
Yes. Because most of the high schools only offer some of the AP courses, if you have studied well and prepared well, you can take the AP test and may get good grade.
2. If you do not get a good grade on an AP test, will it hurt your chances for college admission?
It is believed that if the AP test taker receives AP grades of at least 3 should be fine.
3. How many times can you repeat an AP Test?
Since AP tests are offered once a year in May. A student only can take it when it is offered. A student’s grade report will include all grades for all the AP Exams taken unless canceled or withheld.
4. How much time does an AP Test take?
Most of the AP tests take two to three hours.
5. Should you guess at AP Tests?
Because the AP test has penalty for wrong answers, however, if you have some knowledge of the question and can eliminate one or more answer choices, guessing from among the remaining choices is usually to take the advantage of it.
6. What to bring on the AP Test day?
• Several sharpened No. 2 pencils with erasers for multiple-choice answer sheets
• Black or dark-blue ballpoint pens for free-response questions

7. When will you find out if you are eligible for an AP Scholar Award?
If you are an AP Scholar Award recipient, your school will be notified in the fall after the May administration. After that time, grade transcripts that you request to be sent to colleges will include the scholar designation.

The Advanced Placement (AP) program is a college-level curriculum in the United States and Canada sponsored by the College Board which offers standardized courses to high school students that are generally recognized to be equivalent to undergraduate courses in colleges or universities. Participating colleges and universities grant credit to the students who obtained high enough scores on the AP exams to qualify.

AP Scores
AP exams are scored on a 1 to 5 scale as follows:
- 5 – Extremely well qualified
- 4 – Well qualified
- 3 – Qualified
- 2 – Possibly qualified
- 1 – No recommendation
Grading the AP exam is a long and complicated process. The multiple choice component of the AP exam is scored by computer, while the free response and essay portions are scored by trained Readers at the AP Reading each June. The AP scores on various components are weighted and combined into a raw Composite Score. The Chief Reader for each AP exam then decides on the grade cutoffs for that year’s AP exam, which determine how the Composite Scores are converted into the final AP grades. During the process, a number of reviews and statistical analyses are performed to ensure that the AP grading is reliable. The overall goal is for the AP grades to reflect an absolute scale of performance which can be compared from year to year.
Beginning with the May 2011, AP Exam administration, there was a change to the way AP Exams are scored. Total scores on the multiple-choice section are now based on the number of questions answered correctly. Points are no longer deducted for incorrect answers and, as was the case before, no points are awarded for unanswered questions.
College Credits
Some colleges use AP test scores to exempt students from introductory coursework. Each college’s policy is different, but most require a minimum score of 3 or 4 to receive college credit. Typically this appears as a “CR” grade on the college transcript, although some colleges and universities will award an A grade for a 5 score. Some foreign countries, such as Germany, that do not offer general admission to their universities and colleges for holders of an American high school diploma without lengthy preparatory courses will directly admit students that have completed a specific set of AP tests, depending on the subject they wish to study there.
